How to use a weightlifting belt

Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your By Amelia Rose Weightlifting belt.

Selecting the Right Size and Type of Belt

  • Ensure the belt fits snugly around your waist without being too tight or too loose.
  • Choose a belt that is designed specifically for the type of weightlifting that you will be doing.

Positioning the Belt

  • Stand upright with the belt wrapped around your waist, positioning it above your hip bones and below your rib cage.
  • The back of the belt should align with your lower back, covering the area where your abdominal muscles meet your lower spine.

Securing the Belt

  • Fasten the belt securely using the buckle or lever mechanism provided. Ensure it is tight enough to provide support but allows for comfortable breathing and movement.

Adjusting the Tightness

  • Tighten the belt by pulling the strap or lever snugly against your abdomen. You should feel a slight increase in intra-abdominal pressure, which helps stabilize your core.

Breathing Technique

  • Take a deep breath into your abdomen (diaphragmatic breathing), filling your lungs and pushing your stomach against the belt.
  • Hold your breath briefly as you perform the lift. This technique increases intra-abdominal pressure further, enhancing core stability and support.

Performing the Lift

  • With the belt properly secured and your core engaged, perform your lift (e.g., squat, deadlift, overhead press).
  • Maintain good form throughout the movement, ensuring your spine stays neutral and your core remains stable.

Releasing the Belt

  • After completing your lift and unloading the weight, release the tension on the belt by loosening the strap or lever.
  • Remove the belt carefully, ensuring you do not twist your torso abruptly.

Proper Care and Maintenance

  • Store your weightlifting belt in a cool, dry place when not in use to prevent damage.
  • Clean the belt regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions to maintain hygiene and longevity.
